Maverick!

January 17th, 2012

Well, it’s finally out in the open, so I can now post something.

Maverick has been bought back by Paul Turner, (the guy who started it and invented Rockshox ). As yet, I have noida what his plans are, but my best guess would be licensing the designs to other manufacturers. What this means temporarily is that we can’t get hold of spares. We can still service forks and rear shocks and have some small parts, but how long that lasts I don’t know.

Word here when I get it, stay tuned!

You build one, then another comes along. Similar to the Vaya below, here’s a Singular Peregrine, with 105, Avid brakes and super sturdy Hope/Halo wheelset.
Nice!

Here’s an odd one…

A long standing customer finally decided that he really should have two bikes for his commute, one workhorse and one special bike. Here’s the special one.
It’s a Salsa Vaya, with super sturdy wheels, 105 running gear, Ultegra flat bar shifters, Avid BB7 brakes and I reckon it looks superb. Hope he’s happy with it!

Spend your time wisely

October 11th, 2011

A man who I’m proud to consider a friend died unexpectedly on Sunday 9/10/11.
Chris Mearns was the very definition of a gentleman and a scholar, always up for a ride, ready to discuss any topic with a breadth of knowledge that was frankly staggering, the kind of bloke who spent his days with a twinkle in his eye and a pair of Blundstone’s on his feet.

He died of a heart attack, riding his bike with pals.

Spend your time wisely people, there’s not enough of it to go around.

RIP Chris, you will be long remembered.

Fat bikes…

September 29th, 2011

So, what’s all this fat bike nonsense about then? They look daft, are only good on snow and weigh a ton, must drag like nobodies business and cost a fortune.

Well, I don’t know why, but they’re one of those itches that i’ve always wanted to scratch, but could never actually bring myself to do it. Before I went to Interbike, I actually took the plunge and ordered a Surly Pugsley demo bike – a few folk had talked about the bikes and I thought it might be a good thing to have in the flesh. Once i’d ridden the Surly Moonlander in the desert, I have to say I was proper smitten. They don’t make sense, do weigh a bit, do cost a bit, but you can happily ride them on all kinds of surface, not just sand and snow. For some reason they’re actually fun to chuck around too, might be the bounce you get from those big volume treads, but these things are like biking used to be – fun, just for the sake of it.

I’m off to ride the Pug around Delamere in a few minutes. Guess who’s going to enjoy his ride tonight!
